Open a workbook

Use the spreadsheet editor for supported XLSX, XLS, or CSV files. When a workbook has several sheets, switch with the sheet tabs and confirm which sheet you are editing.

Edit and save

Select a cell to change its content, then save. For important workbooks, save a copy before pasting large ranges or changing the structure.

Formats preserve different information. CSV is suitable for text data from a single table; it cannot preserve a complete workbook with multiple sheets, formatting, and other structures. Keep the original before converting.

Check compatibility

Opening a file successfully does not establish compatibility with complex formulas, macros, or external data connections. After saving or converting, verify calculation results, sheet count, and layout against the data you need.

For garbled text, check the source encoding. Include a small anonymized sample when reporting issues. See Save and Save As.
