Save and Save As
Understand when you change the original, save a copy, or convert a format.

Save your changes
In an editor, choose Save from the File menu. Use ⌘S on macOS or Ctrl+S on Windows. Saving an existing file writes to its current location; a new file needs a destination.
Keep the original
Choose Save As and select a new path. The shortcut is ⌘⇧S on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows. Check the active file path afterward so you know which copy you are editing.
Available formats depend on the editor. Changing a filename extension is not format conversion. Use export or file conversion for that.
When saving fails
Check that the destination is writable, the disk has space, and another program is not restricting access. Try saving to a writable local folder to preserve your work.
A viewer may have no editable state to save. Viewing support does not imply editing support. Check save prompts before closing, and do not assume every change is saved automatically.
