Install and update

Choose an installer

1. Visit the download section.
2. On Windows, choose Microsoft Store or an installer from the GitHub release page. On macOS, choose Apple Silicon or Intel to match your Mac; check About This Mac if unsure.
3. Complete installation and start OpenFiles. For a macOS DMG, open the disk image and drag the app into Applications first.

Open your first file

Try a regular image or Markdown file. Browsing and editing local files does not require configuring an AI provider. When you want to use built-in AI, follow Get started with built-in AI.

Updates and version differences

Find your version in the app’s About information and check the changelog. For Microsoft Store installations, check updates in the Store. For other installations, you can download a newer installer from the website. Save open documents before updating.

If a button differs from this guide, check your version and the active tool. Keep any update error message and follow Report a problem.
